A mood board to reality moment is always one to celebrate here at Style Sourcebook, and this week we’re stepping inside a stunning Mediterranean-inspired home by AJL Studio. Designed by Brittany, Founder of AJL Studio, the mood board project began with a vision of Mediterranean ease, layered with warmth, character, and a quiet sense of luxury. What followed was a home in Yarrawonga that feels textural and effortlessly inviting, starting from a clear concept on Style Sourcebook mood boards, and transitioning into a home that feels truly special through Project Studio.

AJL Studio is a Melbourne-based design practice all about creating spaces that feel wonderfully original. With a background rooted in art styling and interior design, Brittany approaches each project with a creative lens, designing homes that not only look beautiful but also inspire confidence and individuality. This project is no exception, and we’re thrilled to share the mood board and Project Studio journey to becoming a real-life Victoria home. Let’s dive in!

The design direction centred around a Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic, reimagined for modern living. Think soft, neutral foundations layered with tactile finishes that invite you to slow down and stay a while. Venetian plaster walls set the tone, bringing that perfectly imperfect texture that catches the light throughout the day. Paired with the natural beauty of travertine, the material palette feels grounded yet elevated, striking that balance between relaxed and refined.

By pulling through the neutral tones of the home’s facade into the interior, AJL Studio created a seamless flow from outside in. This continuity is what gives the home its calm, cohesive feel. In this way, the light woods, creamy coloured tiling and gold accents flow through each room from the kitchen, laundry and bathroom, which creates a sense of luxury and allows each space to feel connected. The home remains clean and minimal, with a softness to every corner. It’s a space designed to be lived in, to evolve, and to reflect the people who call it home.

What makes this project particularly compelling is the way texture is used as a design language. From the softness of plaster to the natural variation of stone, every surface has been thoughtfully considered. Layered textiles, curved forms, and tonal finishes work together to create depth and interest, proving that minimalism doesn’t have to mean flat or predictable. Instead, it becomes warm, inviting, and full of quiet moments of detail.

The design choices from AJL Studio pulled together a cohesive, thoughtfully considered home. Through choosing finishes that complement each other, layering textures within a neutral palette, and allowing room for personality in every corner, it’s those subtle details that transform the home. We’re in awe of the thoughtful design by Brittany at AJL Studio, and can’t wait to see more projects brought to life by Style Sourcebook mood boards and Project Studio.
