Let’s explore a mood board project with one single floor plan that tells two completely different design stories. Using Style Sourcebook mood boards and Project Studio, Deme Interiors designed LOLA, a pair of luxury side-by-side homes in Essendon, Victoria. Designed for modern family living, each home shares the same architectural footprint, yet each has its own distinct personality, demonstrating just how transformative thoughtful material selections, colour and styling can be.
Working alongside APC Studio and APC Build, interior designers Daniela and Mary created two unique homes that feel connected yet entirely individual. LOLA One embraces a softer, quieter palette with timeless finishes, while LOLA Two leans into richer textures and bolder, trend-led details. Throughout the project, every design decision was documented and presented using Project Studio, helping bring each vision to life with clarity from concept through to completion.

Bringing two distinct design schemes to life requires careful planning, clear communication and meticulous documentation. Throughout the project, Deme Interiors used Project Studio to organise mood boards, present product selections, manage client approvals and keep every design decision in one central place. By documenting each home's unique palette and finishes from the earliest concepts through to the final selections, they were able to create a seamless design journey for both themselves and their clients, ensuring every detail stayed true to the original vision.

Now, let’s take a tour to see how the mood boards became a Melbourne reality. The moment you step inside either home, there's an immediate sense of calm and generosity. Curved walls soften the architecture, while the sculptural staircase creates an elegant focal point. Large black-framed windows flood the entry with natural light, enhancing the open feel and creating a beautiful contrast against the soft, neutral palette. Stone finishes, oversized grey floor tiles and carefully layered textures establish a refined foundation that flows throughout both homes.
While both homes feel warm and inviting, LOLA Two embraces a more expressive, trend-driven approach. The open-plan living, dining and kitchen space celebrates texture and contrast without ever feeling overwhelming.
A sculptural cream curved sofa anchors the living room, layered with chocolate and beige cushions that introduce warmth and depth. Walnut and marble coffee tables continue the organic material palette, while a rounded chocolate armchair adds another layer of softness through its generous form.
Black-framed shelving provides definition against the lighter backdrop, while cream finger tiles and grey marble detailing introduce subtle texture throughout the space. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed in black stretch across the rear of the home, filling the interiors with natural light and creating a seamless connection to the outdoor entertaining area and pool beyond. Soft sheer curtains gently diffuse the light, enhancing the calm atmosphere despite the home's bolder material selections.

It's a great example of one of the biggest interior trends we're seeing continue through 2026, embracing richer earthy tones while balancing them with soft, natural materials and plenty of light. With LOLA One, the interior palette shifts towards soft warmth, creating spaces that feel effortlessly timeless. The kitchen is bright and refined, centred around a light-toned island. Pale cabinetry, warm timber flooring and sleek silver tapware create a clean, contemporary look that will age beautifully. Above the oval dining table, a sculptural white pendant adds a statement without disrupting the calm aesthetic.
