Tour Doasis; a Mood Board Project Exuding Refined Luxury

Designer: SMUB Studio

Welcome to Doasis; a resort-style home nothing short of breathtaking. Designed by SMUB Studio, the project is a twist on the traditional coastal homes found around its location in the idyllic Palm Beach, Queensland. The intention was to create a home of warmth, texture, and rawness with the goal of feeling the home's soul upon entry. And soul it does have. Through rich natural materials, a design optimised for sunlight, and a soothing palette, Doasis exudes a feeling that can only be described as bliss. Come with us as we take a tour of Doasis and discover the mood boards that brought this project to life.

Mood boards are the ultimate way to visualise your dream space, which is exactly what Katie from SMUB Studio did. “First there's a vision, closely followed by a mood board. Mood boards help to create dreams”, says Katie. We couldn’t agree more. It’s been so exciting to watch Doasis come to life, from mood board to reality. And we couldn't wait to share the results with you. Between the striking mid-century style interior mood board and the fresh façade mood board, we know Doasis would instantly become a dream home.

“Style Sourcebook is my go-to application for creating mood boards for both my personal project and my clients. Visual representation is key when designing a home and allowing the vision to come to life.”

From the moment you set your eyes upon the exterior of Doasis, the subtle nods to the home's location are evident. It’s not your typical laidback coastal abode, but the soft tones, natural stone features, spotted gum, and calming feel all pay homage to the iconic Palm Beach area. Doasis’ seamless blend of classic mid-century modern and refined luxury is also a striking element that immediately catches the eye. From the clean lines to the stylish breeze blocks and hints of desert oasis landscaping, you already know you’re in for a treat, even before you walk through the door.

Throughout Doasis is a mid-century modern dream. The home feels fresh, raw, open, and cosy, all at once. The homes’ U shape design perfectly optimises natural light that streams through large windows, skylights, and pocket doors, creating space and warmth. Easily the heart of the home, walnut cabinetry, detailed tiles, and silver travertine benchtops fill the spacious kitchen. Combined with the social spaces, bar, and additional wine room, Doasis is an entertainer's dream. The theme of muted tones, timeless interiors, and cosy vibes is carried cohesively throughout the home and into the external areas.

A smooth merge between indoors and outdoors flows to only enhances the natural elements of this tranquil space. Stepping out onto the alfresco and into the external areas is where you're truly submerged in a desert oasis. The landscape has been curated to ensure minimal maintenance is required, but it's far from ordinary. The flora perfectly complements the design of the pool and lounging spaces to create an aesthetic that instantly transports you to a luxury resort in Palm Springs. We couldn’t possibly pick a favourite feature, but the pool area has us absolutely swooning.

“The intention was to create warmth, texture, and rawness. A home needs to feel as if it has a soul when you enter, and the materials selected within Doasis were chosen to create this feeling.”

Katie and her husband, Tristen, are the dream team behind SMUB Studio, located on the Gold Coast. With ten years of experience in the industry, their projects are nothing short of inspiring. We’re lucky enough to sit down with Katie as we tour Doasis and get an insight into the incredible project.

Hi Katie, thanks for sitting down with us, we’re excited to chat with you! What’s your favourite feature of the home?

“My favourite feature is the full slab of beautiful silver travertine stone centred within the kitchen. The island was designed as the anchor of the home.”

What are some of the main brands and suppliers used at Doasis?

“The main brands within Doasis are Stone Style, Graystone Tiles, Polytec, Austral Bricks and Finestone Granite and Marble.”

Do you have any exciting upcoming projects you’d like to share with us?

“Sure do! We have some really special coastal client projects in the pipeline as well as an acreage project of our own. Stay tuned!”

We hope you loved touring Doasis as much as we did! If you’re looking to create your own dream home and bring your vision to life, check out our mood board tool here.
