Style Sourcebook Profile: Smeg Australia

If you’ve had to design a kitchen in the past, you’d know it’s no easy feat. You have to consider every element, ranging from the appliances you love to what your morning routine looks like. Essentially, functionality can make or break your kitchen. So, how do you achieve a space that is not only stylish and filled with quality, but also functional? And who better to explore this topic with than Smeg? Come with us as we discover the important tips to consider when designing a functional kitchen.

Consider Your Layout

The first thing to consider when designing a functional kitchen is the layout. There are so many different formations to choose from; L-Shape, Galley, Peninsula - the list goes on. Our advice? Consider the space and what you prioritise most. For example, try opting for appliances that will still tick all the boxes, but won’t have you compromising in other areas, like compact ovens. It’s also important to consider the position of the most used items in your kitchen, such as your fridge and sink, as these should be easily accessible to complement the functionality of your space.

“Smeg now offers a full range of kitchen appliances that exude Italian style and functionality. From cooking appliances to dishwashers, freestanding and full-integrated fridges, and, of course, the iconic small appliance range. It can all be topped off with Smeg cookware”.

Lifestyle Is Key

While we’re on the topic of layout, your lifestyle should also be an important part of designing a functional kitchen. Take a moment to think about your current kitchen, how did you last use it? For example, maybe you’re needing more bench space for cooking, entertaining, or homework. Investing in built-in appliances is the perfect way to get items off your bench and seamlessly integrated into the cabinetry. It leaves your space looking neat and stylish while optimising functionality.

Quality Pieces That Work for You

There’s a certain art to selecting quality pieces that not only suit your space but actually make life easier. Aesthetics are important, but there’s little use in having a cooktop that you dread using, cleaning or just having in your kitchen. So, investing in quality pieces is a key component to functionality as you want your appliances to work with you, not against. We recommend listing the things you’d need to make life easier. Is it a self-cleaning oven? An induction cooktop? Quality cookware? Even the smallest changes can make the biggest differences.

“Smeg is known for its various aesthetics that represent so many different styles and personalities. At Smeg, we celebrate individuality and the array of colours and styles on offer enable people to be able to express themselves within their kitchen”.

Purposeful Décor

So, now you have the perfect layout, your appliances suit your lifestyle and the stovetop isn’t a battle to clean. What about adding small appliances as the cherry on top? Accessorising with small appliances is a fun way to add a bit of character to your space while keeping it functional. Try creating a coffee station or even treat yourself to pieces that can make cooking easier. These elements can become gorgeous parts of your décor, while still serving a purpose!
