Step Inside a Contemporary Coastal Home on the Mornington Peninsula

Tucked just moments from the shoreline on the Mornington Peninsula, this Melbourne beach house offers a refreshing take on coastal living. It’s one that leans into warmth, texture and quiet luxury rather than the expected sea of whites and blues. Enveloping the space in a cocoon of comfort, the warm palette works in quiet harmony with softly draped sheer linen curtains, diffusing light into a gentle, calming glow.

Designed by Jessical Enander Dunne and built by MLH Building Group, from the very first glimpse, the home sets a calming tone. A soft, sandy palette wraps the exterior, where organic textures meet clean architectural lines. Stone paving laid in an irregular pattern pairs effortlessly with timber detailing, creating a tactile, grounded entrance that feels both considered and relaxed. It’s a hint at what’s to come: a home that balances structure with softness, and simplicity with statement.

The open plan living area, the curve of the bannister, the glass wine room… oh my! Step inside, and the atmosphere is immersive, with unique detailing that captures attention. With warm timber flooring and expanses of travertine, it introduces a natural, sun-washed quality that feels inherently Mediterranean. Arches appear throughout the home, softening transitions between rooms and adding a sculptural rhythm that guides you from one moment to the next.

The living area is the ultimate level of cosy and aesthetic. Think rich chocolate tones layered from the rug to the cushions and artwork, paired with buttery leather seating that instantly warms up the space. Marble tables add that little moment of luxe, while still keeping things relaxed and liveable. Then there’s the showstopper: a floor-to-ceiling black steel window that floods the room with light and frames the outdoors.

The kitchen’s cabinetry in mid-toned timber seamlessly echoes the flooring. It’s a space designed for gathering, where materiality does the talking and every finish feels thoughtfully aligned. Just beyond, a glass-encased wine room adds a layer of indulgence, offering a glimpse into a more intimate, curated corner of the home.

The connection between indoors and out is effortless. Large steel-framed windows and doors draw in natural light while framing views of the pool, where the same interplay of stone and timber continues. This cohesion creates a sense of flow, allowing the outdoor zones to feel like an extension of the interiors. Whether it’s a quiet morning by the water or an afternoon spent entertaining, the home moves easily between moments.

Throughout the bedrooms, the mood softens further. The main suite feels like a retreat, layered with warm neutrals, soft textiles and gentle curves.  The adjoining dressing room and ensuite elevate the experience, bringing a boutique, hotel-like sensibility into everyday life. In the bathroom, a rounded bathtub showcases ultimate luxury, with a striking burgundy Calacatta Viola basin adding another luxury edge to complement the space perfectly.

A study overlooking the pool offers a serene place to work, connected yet quietly tucked away behind steel-framed doors. It’s these thoughtful details, how each space relates to the next, how materials repeat and evolve, that give the home its sense of cohesion.

The result is a beach house that captures a slower, more intentional way of living. The Mornington Peninsula has the most stunning views, and this home fits in with the beauty of the coast.
