We’re about to take you inside a haven of soft neutrals and salt air, a cosy cottage of calm and comfort, designed for relaxed coastal living. It already sounds dreamy, and the interior design has reintroduced the home as the epitome of Byron Bay living, being deeply connected to its surroundings. Think warm woods and woven calm, where textures meet tranquillity. Let’s step through the doors of Carlyle Lane by Studio Haus Co: a renovation with the brief to preserve warmth and charm.

Tucked away in Byron Bay, this reimagined cottage honours the soul of the original home while gently elevating it for contemporary living. Restored with heart and intention, the most noticeable features are the cohesive finishes, a crisp, calming palette, and a refined interplay of texture from warm timber flooring to stone-look surfaces and brushed bronze detailing.

The kitchen sets the tone for the rest of the home, with a relaxed neutral palette that continues through each room. Crisp white cabinetry is paired with dark timber flooring, creating contrast and warmth underfoot. Bronze handles add a subtle metallic accent, echoed beautifully in the bronze gooseneck tapware. Brown leather bar stools with elegant gold legs introduce a touch of understated luxury, while small square beige stone-look tiles on the walls provide texture and a softly coastal feel. Open timber shelving styled with greenery brings the outdoors in, which feels like an essential ingredient for Byron homes.

Flowing seamlessly into the dining area, dark timber continues to create a cosy, homely feel. A solid wood dining table sits beneath sculptural cone pendant lights, creating a warm, intimate setting for conversations and evening dinners (that’s what you first imagine when you first look at the dining area!). Curved cream dining chairs soften the look, while a plush cream rug adds comfort and balance, ensuring the space feels both styled and liveable.

In the bathroom, the palette remains neutral and calming (exactly how you want the aura of a bathroom to be, especially with a bath as large as this!). The stone-look freestanding bath becomes the statement of the room, framed by soft beige walls that enhance the sense of serenity. Bronze ABI tapware and slim bronze towel rails introduce warmth and cohesion, tying back to the finishes used throughout the home. A white oval bowl sink, rectangular mirror and beige vanity keep the look clean and timeless, while brown kit kat tiles in the shower add texture and visual interest without overpowering the space.

The living area is designed for slow mornings and relaxed afternoons (that’s what we imagine here). A chunky pale oak coffee table grounds the room, paired with a soft cream rug that invites barefoot living, aligning perfectly with coastal life. White Venetian blinds filter natural light, while a deep, neutral-toned rectangular sofa anchors the space, being plush, generous and effortlessly inviting. It’s a room for relaxation.

In the bedroom, comfort is what you feel just by looking at the room (just like the living room!). Dark timber floors contrast beautifully with beige wardrobes finished to match the bathroom cabinetry, complete with slim bronze handles for continuity. Crisp linen bedding is layered with a wool throw and brown cushions, creating a cosy, hotel-like feel. A simple white bedside lamp completes the space, reinforcing the home’s calm, restorative energy.

There’s no doubt that this Byron Bay cottage is a gorgeous retreat, reimagined in the renovation, yet still preserving its charming character while elevating everyday living. We’re dreaming of sinking into the sofa, with soft light filtering through, and doors thrown open to the coastal breeze!
