What is the Australiana Interior Design Trend?
Taking notes from the classic depiction of the Australian lifestyle, Australiana is a laid-back, calming trend that brings grounded tones, earthy characters, and natural elements into your space - it's an ideal trend for bringing the outdoors in, essentially. Australiana focuses more on the tones and textures of a space, rather than the shapes, lines, and layout. It’s the perfect trend for creating a calming atmosphere.
To paint a picture, Marketing & Community Coordinator, Tayla, gave us a look into how our design community has been leaning into this trend.
“Recently we've noticed many mood boards with colour palettes and textures that reflect our scenic countryside. Gorgeous browns, rich reds, and warm greens have become so popular, as well as dusty pinks, sky blues, and pale yellows. We’ve seen a big increase in the use of these tones through tiles, armchairs, textured rugs, and even paint colours,” notes Tayla. “This palette lends itself well to the evolving Australiana style, with elements that remind us of the Australian landscape and just how special it is.”
How To Achieve the Australian Interior Design Trend
The Australiana trend has also gained popularity because it’s pretty straightforward to bring into your home. You don’t need to perform an entire overhaul of your current interiors to be able to achieve it. Plus, elements from the Australiana trend fit well with other interior styles, such as coastal and modern. Let’s dive in!

Australiana Palette
The Australiana palette is quite extensive and really encourages personal preference. For example, think of your favourite outdoor spot. Is it at the beach, with a mixed palette of blues, yellows, and beige? Or maybe it’s in the hinterlands, which often features a palette of dark greens and greys. There’s also sunset pinks, dusty red hills, and off-white snow mountains. The colours and tones really are endless, which means you have infinite choice when it comes to your own Australiana palette.
Our only advice for keeping your space grounded while you explore colour is to stick to tones that complement each other. Opt for a neutral base and build from there. Keep cooler tones together and vice versa with warmer tones. If you’re looking for more help choosing complementary colours, discover this Guide to Choosing the Perfect Palette for Your Home.

Textures within Australiana
Using textures throughout Australiana interior design is a complete game changer. The role of texture is to add depth and dimension to your space, and when thinking of nature there is plenty of inspiration. Think about the layers, uneven surfaces and movement found within the Australiana landscape. The aim is to replicate these elements.

Natural Materials are Key
If there’s one way to create a natural connection within the home, it’s through organic materials. From linen to timber, stone, and cotton, the options are endless. Opting for furniture and décor made from natural materials will create a direct link between indoors and outdoors, working to ground your space.

Australiana Décor
There are so many versatile ways to add colour, texture and natural materials to your home, such as freshly painted walls, boucle sofas or even clay vases. But if you’re looking for décor that is sure to achieve the Australiana trend, we recommend incorporating artwork and rugs.
Artwork and wall décor are perfect for self-expression while adding an abundance of colour, texture, and interest to your space. Similarly, rugs will add colour and another layer to your room, bringing in warmth and further interest. Plus, rugs come in a variety of natural materials, meaning they’re perfect for ticking every box.
