The space is open, fresh, and filled with so many gorgeous details, it really does feel like a holiday at home. Modern Mediterranean homes are fast gaining popularity, and when exploring Villa Athena, it’s easy to see why. This distinct style is known for creating a serene setting that uses certain details inspired by the iconic European coastline locations. These details include textures, curves, neutral palettes with pops of colour, and of course, natural materials.

Each one of these elements first makes an appearance on the stunning mood boards created by Cotter Builders on Style Sourcebook. Separated by room, the mood boards feature a neutral base complemented by understated textures and striking materials. We also love the feature of organic forms taking centre stage, all working together to help illustrate the vision for Villa Athena.

We might be biased, but there really is nothing better than seeing a project go from mood board, to real life. Cotter Builders has achieved the perfect family home that embodies modern villa living. It’s inviting and warm, yet functional and stylish, a combination made in heaven.

Upon arrival at Villa Athena, the large arched front doors with reeded glass welcomes you inside to an open-plan space that truly represents indoor-outdoor living. The high ceilings and large windows allow light to stream through, adding to the warmth of the palette. Even with this impressive introduction to the home, it’s the details, like the light oak tones, textured stone, and abundance of curves, that truly make it a masterpiece.

Take the kitchen, for example. Cementing the idea that this space is the heart of the home, the kitchen at Villa Athena is beyond stunning. We love the travertine mosaic tiles that wrap around the island bench, ticking the Mediterranean texture, tone and shape boxes. The cabinetry continues that warm, soft aesthetic, but also provides the perfect backdrop for the brass tapware that adds an element of interest and depth to the area.

These details continue throughout the house, creating flow and interest in every space, such as the bathroom. We love how the same tones have been featured, but in alternate ways to create a point of difference. We love how curves are prioritised in every way, from the fixtures to the fittings, décor and beyond.
