It’s no secret that Dulux are the front runners in the interior design industry when it comes to all things colour. Each year Dulux release their forecast trend report of the colours they predict are going to be popular in the coming year. Where previous years colour trends have been more on the brighter and eclectic side, this year is more of a refined and relaxed palette. With the year we all had last year, we find it very fitting that this year’s Dulux Colour Forecast for 2021 is all about creating a homely and calming aesthetic. Dulux have come up with three different palettes that are centred around the notions of Nourish, Reset and Retreat. If you’re looking at refreshing your home then we’re sure you’ll find inspiration from one of these colour palettes. And better still, we have added all of the colours in the colour forecast to our mood board tool for you to play around with. You can discover these here.

      RESET

With the start of a fresh year ahead, don’t we all want to hit the reset and forget about 2020? The Dulux Reset palette is fun, quirky, and bold. It instantly evokes feelings of joy, youthfulness and makes you forget about the worries of the world. It has a subtle retro hint and is influenced by a sense of nostalgia and that famous 70s colour palette. Mixing the old with the new, contrasting pops of colour and letting loose a little is what the Reset palette is all about. If you aren’t a massive fan of colour or just want to include a touch, you can always choose a more neutral base colour for your walls, such as Dulux Snowy Mountains Half, and add some colour through your artwork selection or a feature wall. The Reset palette is perfect for the interior lover that craves colour, wants to add some life into their home and has a slightly eclectic style.

      NOURISH

When you hear the word ‘nourish’ what do you think of? For us, we think of a sense of security, wellness, and stillness. It reminds us of the idea of sitting down by the window with a nice hot cup of tea with no to-do list or endless amounts of washing to do. This idea of relaxation and serenity can be brought into your home through the clever and considered use of colour and different tones. The colours featured in Dulux’s Nourish palette are earthy, soft and are natural hues that are designed to create a sense of peacefulness and nourishment within your interior. Warm whites, sage greens and muted colours are all colours that fit into the Nourish palette. If you’re looking to create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere in your home, the Nourish palette is for you.

      RETREAT

For a lot of us, when we think of the idea of ‘retreat’, we think this means getting away somewhere. We don’t often associate this word with our own home. If the times of late have taught us anything it’s that we may not always have the luxury to get away and escape to some place else. The Dulux Retreat palette focuses on the idea that you can always create a retreat-like atmosphere within your own home. The Retreat palette is a bit more on the contemporary side and features varying tones of grey and blue.  It is a bit more of a moody palette and encourages contrast with lighter and darker shades. While it doesn’t necessarily have a strong focus on bold and bright colours, this palette encourages colour to be used throughout artwork and homeware accessories. The Retreat palette would suit someone who prefers a more modern style of home, likes more of a moodier and minimal aesthetic, and wants to create a home that is versatile and timeless.
