We’ve recently added a large range of Luxe Mirrors products to our product library so you can now include these in your home and designs. We speak with the founders of Luxe Mirrors who offer their top tips when it comes to choosing the right mirror for your bathroom and what mirror trends you need to know about this season.

How did Luxe Mirrors come to be?

Luxe Mirrors was started and built by husband-and-wife team, Jamie & Faye. After furnishing homes throughout Queensland, they were frustrated with the lack of choice, variety, quality, and affordability of mirrors here in retail stores in Australia. Mirrors are need in almost every room of the home, for all kinds of function and design purposes. Jamie is a qualified builder and construction manager and had been working in the industry since he was 15 years of age and was versed on what needed to improve the quality and variety of mirrors that were available for Australian homes. After their first child was born, Faye became extremely unwell with a rare condition and Jamie decided to leave the construction industry to work in and on Luxe Mirrors full time while taking care of his family. His Construction and Design background has helped immensely to improve what is available in the market and feature Luxe custom-made designs to suit every project's style and functionality.

What are your top tips for someone who is choosing a bathroom mirror?

1. Consider proportion

Unless a bathroom mirror is fitted from wall-to-wall, it should be proportionate to the rest of the space, particularly the vanity. From an aesthetic perspective, it is more desirable to have a bathroom mirror that is narrower than the width of the vanity and placed at an equal distance from the lighting fixture and sink (unless it is a small-sized mirror). The size should also be proportionate to the ceiling; for example, a high ceiling would require a full-length or vertical mirror or else it will look a little lost in the room.

2. Consider functionality

Mirrors are useful for opening up bathroom spaces while serving their true purpose – providing functionality. The height and width of the bathroom mirror you choose will depend on the viewing angles you wish to gain from it for self-grooming, as well as to reflect more light in the space.

3. Consider your bathroom size

It’s important to keep the size of your bathroom in mind when choosing the perfect mirror size for the space. You can either hit or miss with your choice and therefore, must put enough thought into what you want to achieve with the mirror. For example, if you wish to create the illusion of more space, pick a large bathroom mirror to open up space, or if you have a low ceiling, a horizontal mirror that is fitted within equal distance from the basin and ceiling is advised. Overall, the size of the mirror should be proportionate to the size of the bathroom.

What mirror trends have you noticed lately?

The wall mirror trends we are seeing lately are beautiful metal framed mirrors in gold, brass, bronze and black. In terms of mirror shapes, the trends we are noticing are arch, rectangle, round and pebble shaped mirrors. The led illuminated mirrors are very popular for master ensuites and powder rooms. These are great at creating contrast to dark tones and matching with bathroom fixtures and fittings. Oversized leaner style mirrors are also very popular for bedrooms and living areas to make a style statement and shine light and space across a room.

What's your advice on how to keep your bathroom mirror clean?

In humid or salty conditions, mirrors and glass should be wiped down and cleaned frequently. Not only the mirror surface but frame and glass edges also. This will help eliminate moisture, salt and dust particle build up and ensure that the mirror is kept in great condition for future years to come.
