Adele Naidoo’s Sculptural Shift | Form, Flow, and Inspiration

Adele Naidoo is an Australian-based artist with a talent for illustrating the beauty of nature through her artwork. Having long been inspired by flowers, Adele’s vibrant pieces are instantly recognisable featuring bold, textured brushstrokes, and striking palettes. We’ve been fortunate enough to dive deep into these artworks with Adele in the past, where we also spoke on all things personal style, inspirations, and her creative design process

This time, we’re back with the renowned artist to explore her stunning Sculptural collection while learning the details behind the muse, journey, and creation.

It was late last year that Adele felt a pull towards creating and experimenting with 3D forms. Embracing this shift, Adele began evolving from floral artworks to abstract pieces, with a specific inspiration in mind. “Flowers will forever be my muse, their form, curves, colour, their eminent beauty, how they evolve, grow, withstand environmental factors, and bloom,” Adele explains. In collaboration with her husband, Jayd Naidoo, whose architectural background complements her love of floral design, the couple crafted pieces that embody the harmony between structure and nature.

The sculptures are designed and created through an intuitive and hands-on process. “We hand-mould and shape each piece to be reminiscent of flower formation and movement,” she explains. Experimentation is key, particularly when it comes to texture, form, and balance. With a lot of trial and error, she and Jayd work to reshape and refine each piece until it feels just right. “When a piece doesn’t feel right, we just know. It could involve starting over entirely,” Adele reflects.

It’s the incredible attention to detail and dedication that enables the Sculptures and Sculptural Prints to be so special. Additionally, the subtle, grounded palettes and visual texture also play an important role. Each piece stands out while remaining versatile, making the collection perfect for any interior project. “I wanted my sculptural pieces to be bold in scale and design but with colours that speak to a variety of moods and personalities,” she explains. After all, art is so much more than just decor, it evokes positive emotions and creates a deeper connection to the space. “Artwork in interiors is that extra layer of personality and feeling injected into a space. It 100% completes a space,” she says.

With this in mind, we just had to ask Adele for her styling tips for the Sculptural pieces. “As the palette is earthy with some muted tones, I love pairing them with natural stone”, notes Adele. “For me, a marble plinth with a sculptural vase and simple floral arrangement is my ideal match."

Just as we thought we couldn’t get any more inspired by our conversation with Adele, she mentioned a quote from Michelangelo, “Sculpture is made by taking away, while painting is made by adding.” Noting that this quote has been playing on her mind as she embraces the sculptural shift, Adele views experimenting with sculptural form as a way of purely letting movement be showcased, while stripping everything else away to achieve flow and balance within each piece.
