A Batten fix is one of the most common light fittings, often supplied as a standard in new homes. It is simply a BC (B22) lamp holder connected to the ceiling or wall. Many DIY (Do it Yourself) lighting fittings are made to cover Batten Fixes.

By unscrewing the sleeve at the bottom of the Batten Fix you are able to slide the DIY light into place then screw the sleeve back on. The main benefit of DIY lighting of this nature is that they do not require the need for an electrician to install.
