A Batten Fix is one of the most common light fittings. It is simply a B22 (Bayonet Cap) lamp holder connected to the ceiling. Many DIY light fittings are designed to cover existing batten fixes. No electrician is required, saving on installation costs.

By unscrewing the sleeve at the bottom of the batten fix you are able to slide the DIY light into place then screw the sleeve back on. This allows for the DIY light to be held in place.
