Ashton House; a Residential Project Rich in Unique Texture and Interest

Building Designer: ReziCAD

Welcome to Ashton House, a luxury residential project brought to you by an incredibly talented team including AM Interior Studio. The Brisbane abode is simply stunning with its strategic details, curved features, opulent textures and materials, and an earthy palette. It has all the benefits and interests of a contemporary home, yet the atmosphere and influence of a Mediterranean holiday. Come with us as we take a tour of Ashton House and explore its striking, rich aesthetics.

If you’ve been a long-time fan of interior design or even our Style Edit, then you’d be familiar with Ashley from AM Interior Studio. We’ve previously featured her Athea project which also left us in absolute awe as we quickly pinned images of the organic modern home to our vision boards. From the moment we came across Ashton House, we knew it’d swiftly become another favourite.

Similarly to Athea, Ashton House is filled with the most incredible tones and textures that instantly captivate. However, this luxurious home is unique in its own way, with striking details that feel eccentric, yet not overwhelming. Take the wave shelf that sits above the sink in the kitchen, for instance. It doesn’t immediately demand your attention, but once spotted, it's hard to look away. Added to enhance shadows and movement dynamics, this curved detail is subtly powerful and strategic.

That seems to be the recurring theme throughout Ashton House, powerful and strategic. Whether it's the Dolce Vita quartzite stone benchtop, the whimsical frills of the wall sconces, or even the terracotta-rendered wall behind the fireplace and in the master bedroom (equipped with in-built arch niches). Each element plays an essential part in creating a house full of depth, interest, and rich aesthetics.

“I aimed to incorporate curves in unexpected areas, engaging in a truly experimental approach that pushed conventional boundaries.”

- Ashley Maddison | Creative Founder of AM Interior Studio

Palette and curves aside, the team has also achieved a masterful balance of materials throughout each and every space. Starting at the exterior, timber battens complement textured render with an eye-catching stone pillar. This juxtaposing use of materials is only furthered inside where smooth surfaces cohesively integrate with understated textures, such as the soft kitchen cabinetry paired with the tactile mosaic tiles. Or the united use of bouclé and stone furniture. Or even the terrazzo bathroom tiles with the organic-shaped bath and fluted vanity. Each material brings a different texture or finish that adds an element of individuality yet achieves complete cohesion.

Ashton House perfectly illustrates how engaging interior design can be without overwhelming the space or the risk of it aging quickly.

It’s always such a pleasure to feature a project from Ashely at AM Interior Studio, whose award-winning designs continue to inspire and uplift. Her approach to each project is simple, yet effective, have the client’s style and house vernacular as the driving factor to keep each design distinctive and refreshing, which is exactly how we’d describe Ashton House.
